Dear Friends,
As the new Chief Executive Director of the Boys Home Of The South (BHOTS), I am blessed to serve our boys.

In 2012, residential care facilities suffered devastating declines in referrals due to a philosophical shift in care by government agencies. Several facilities in South Carolina closed permanently. At the Boys Home our census fell dramatically to a current enrollment of a few boys. Yet, we remain operational and fiscally responsible to the care and needs of our boys.

When the Boys Home began in 1958 we were 100% privately sponsored. Over the years we became 100% government dependent. It is clear, that even if referrals return to previous standards, sole dependency on government funds jeopardizes our existence. As former Co-Chair of the BHOTS Board of Trustees, and after much meditation and prayer, I resigned my position with my current employer to respond to this imminent need to change our business model.

In the future, our new business model will expand our services to serve three populations of boys; transitional, private, and Reactive Attachment Disorders.

We expect to increase our census to full capacity through adoption of this new business model. More about our business model and other plans for the future will be shared in the upcoming months through newsletters, a newly designed website, and CEO Talk sessions. Call me, write me, or invite me to your next meeting or event.

At the Boys Home Of The South, we do our best to take care of the boys who live with us with unwavering love and steadfast support. We have served thousands of boys, and with your help, we will serve thousands more. Whether our boys are with us for a short time or years, we remain committed to our mission, "Mending Boys and Building Men".

In service to our boys in honor of you,

Alfred B. Squire
